Goodbye Traphouse Druglord

We have some news to share about Traphouse Druglord. It's now exclusively hosted on Itch.io, and unfortunately, we won't be moving forward with its development. We owe you all an explanation, and we want to be completely open about what's been going on.

The Beginning

Traphouse Druglord was a collaborative project with a friend, sparked by our fascination with the crime genre in mobile gaming. The idea originated in 2015, and that's when we began learning Blender and Unity. life intervened, causing a pause and some file losses. In 2017, we revived the project. The journey extended a little over a year, not accounting for the time invested in honing our skills with Blender and Unity. Our commitment to the development process paid off with  a successful release that resonated well with the audience. A fundamental principle we upheld was providing players the choice to engage with advertisements at their discretion, always ensuring a worthwhile incentive for their participation and not making the game impossible without them. We reached an impressive milestone of over 10,000 downloads on the Google Play Store, and our ad revenue was on a great upward trajectory. It felt like a pivotal moment, one that hinted at our transition into a full-fledged game development company. We channeled a significant portion of our earnings into advertising efforts on platforms like Facebook and Google. However, our journey wasn't without its share of challenges. Many of our ads faced censorship due to the game's content. We believe our content isn't objectionable. It's a theme you can easily encounter on television, movies, and various forms of media without raising eyebrows.

Unity3d

Unity, the platform that powered our game, recently implemented policy changes and they seem to have an ethical stance that doesn't sit well with us. We will not use Unity in the future unless we need to update the most recent version, which, mostly is untested. As of now. We're uncertain about whether we'll explore alternative engines such as Godot or Unreal. The absence of recent development activities coupled with the prospect of mastering a new engine introduces a considerable challenge, making the pursuit of game development feel more distant. We're currently in the process of deciding whether we want to continue along this path of game development, but we want to encourage all indie developers!

Life

Life's been, well, life. We hit a patch of disorganization, life changes, and getting banned from Google Play really hit us hard, both emotionally and financially. The cost of filing taxes on the small revenue we made from PC sales and mobile after being banned were more than we made. We tried to adapt the game for Android by changing nothing about the core gameplay except the names of drugs it was flavors of candy, but unfortunately, it just didn't resonate with our audience and didn't bring in the same success. Our team also encountered personal challenges that made it difficult to dedicate the same amount of time to game development as we had before.

There were more issues on top of that. Our ads with Unity stopped showing completely on the candy version, and trying to make a PC version that captured the essence of the original mobile game proved to be a bit of a struggle. We were all over the place, trying to make it work, but we weren't able to.

Thank you!

We want to take a moment to express our sincere thanks to you and the community for all the support you've shown us. We're really proud of the work we've done on Traphouse Druglord and were overwhelmed by the good response from our audience. We still believe it is a great game and hope it stands the test of time. Since the policy changes aren't applied retroactively, we've decided to keep the Downloadable game available on only Itch.io.
You can find the WebGL version on Itch, GameJolt, and Simmer.

Thank you for being there on this journey with us.

Good News

The good news is that the most recent files that will be uploaded have been updated and include features that were developed during the game's production but were never released. Additionally, we're excited to announce that we're releasing a WebGL version of Traphouse Druglord. This version will be available right here on Itch.io, allowing you to experience the game directly from your web browser on PC or Mobile devices.

Additionally, we'd like to emphasize how incredible Itch.io has been for us and the game development community, which is why we've chosen to host Traphouse Druglord here indefinitely. Itch.io is an incredible platform that truly supports indie developers. Traphouse Druglord The UnCut Android version and Unity Weather Asset Pack will be pay what you want and all proceeds will also go to itch.
